Monday, 16 March 2009 02:17

The "Home care for people affected by HIV / AIDS” began its activities in May of 2008 at CF" Caritas Church Ivano – Frankivsk UGCC". In order to meet project objectives the cooperation with the regional center for prevention of HIV / AIDS was adjusted, working meetings with the head of the center Misyura Volodymyr Oleksijovych were organized, private meetings with potential people were held, who are in need to provide detailed information on project activities and the types of medical and social assistance, which may be HIV- affected and people with AIDS.

Throughout the period from May 1 to December 31, 2008 31 HIV-infected person were adopted on care and maintenance, two of whom are children of 9 years and 4 years old, and four of them mothers with children under 18 months.

Today, social status and modest means of our wards led to what they most need financial assistance, as well as understanding, compassion and spiritual and moral and psychological support. Becoming a purchaser of this project, these people can get help in the form of personal hygiene kits and medicines, which they most needed in connection with their state of health.

According to the order of the Director of CF “Caritas - Ivano-Frankivsk UGCC" the reverend father Volodymyr Chornij, one thousand UAH of own funds of our organization were transferred to food base "Carpathian Trading House". The workers received food that had been sorted into sets. This event was held twice during the project - once in the month of June and the second time - in December, before Christmas holidays.

During the project assistance was provided in the amount - 8 844.00 UAH., including:

· Medical equipment - 6 290.00 USD.

· hygienic means - 1 554.00 USD.

· Food - 1 000,00 USD

It is also important for our wards was the fact that during the project they could, for their wish, to receive humanitarian assistance in the form of used clothes and shoes, bedding, which also has considerable significance for them, especially those families who have additional income ,except pensions.

Every kind of help for our wards is essential, first of all - it is their material support, on the other hand - is an expression of our care about them, because in our society it is difficult even psychologically and morally.

Unfortunately, our state is one of the highest rates of HIV infection. So appropriate for today is to help and to support people who suffered such severe disease in order not to feel alone, rejected by society. After all this promotes anger and aggression caused to all parties of their surrounding. It is also important to provide appropriate moral support to their family and friends, because it is very difficult to accept this reality, such as that your son or daughter - HIV-infected, or you can have grandchildren who may be infected with this virus and doomed to be sick so disease ...

It is worth while not to forget the issue of prevention of HIV infection among the healthy population and our youth. In connection with this, CF “Caritas - Ivano-Frankivsk UGCC” continued carrying out preventive activities on prevention of HIV infection.

Therefore it has become a tradition for our organization annually before December 1 to conduct various types of action in order to disseminate information on prevention of infection among the healthy population, as well as information on the epidemiological status of the disease in the world, in the country and in our region. Particular attention is given to work with school-aged youth.

That is why in 2008 we organized two workshops in the schools of our city on "Face to Face with AIDS”. The main purpose of these events was not only the dissemination of information about the disease, but generalization of all that children already know about HIV and AIDS. The focus - to show the real picture of "life" - the existence of HIV-infected and AIDS patients, and this is mainly drug addicts, persons deprived of their liberty, sexual minorities ... The important role played by the film "On the Edge," which reflects the lifestyle of these people, their problems and deadlock.

In addition, December 1, 2008 based CF Caritas Ivano - Frankivsk Church was organized a round table, which was attended by an independent expert from Germany, Mr. Sabine Erdman-Kudnevych and representatives of public and private organizations of Ivano - Frankivsk, with which our organization cooperates. The purpose of this event was to determine the level of cooperation between organizations and determine the evaluation of CF “Ivano - Frankivsk UGCC”, particularly of projects "Home care for the elderly people" and "Home care for HIV-infected and AIDS patients”.

In addition, after the roundtable Mrs. Sabina had an opportunity personally to meet with our wards and to talk with them about their needs, explain their views on the activities of this project and work on the workers themselves.

Overall, the results of our work we consider a positive impact on the overall morale of our wards, their relatives. We believe that even a short period of our activities, we can not deliver, but it is certainly easier life for one person, supporting them in difficult situations when they found themselves alone-on-himself in the embrace of this terrible disease. In fact, be good and joy in need - the main vocation benefactor.
